Tanabe Kawayu Campground is a first-come free-site campground in Kumano Hongu, with lawn and riverbed sites and the Kawayu hot spring 5 minutes on foot. Good for river play and fishing in summer.

Good to know
Ground fires are allowed only on the lower riverbed until 31 January 2027; from 1 February 2027 the whole site is ground-fire free zone (stands only). Generators, karaoke and idling banned. Garbage is take-home (sorted waste accepted at the gate).
