Campsite on the open highland lawn of the Cupid Valley ski resort in Joetsu, Niigata. Free-choice grass tent sites with no power, plus Canadian log cabins with bath and toilet and glamping plans; the cooking area has hot water. Lawn playground and a free indoor play area in the center house; pets allowed at the Yamanoue campsite.

Good to know
No power at the campsite; direct fires banned (fire pits OK). Campsite staff present 13:00–20:00; the center house is locked at night. Operating period may shift with the weather.
Access
Muikamachi IC (from Tokyo), Joetsu IC (from Hokuriku) or Kakizaki IC (from Niigata). From Kanto set the navigation to Mushikawa-Osugi Station (Hokuhoku Line) first to avoid narrow mountain roads. 1,250 free parking spaces. By train: Hokuhoku Line to Mushikawa-Osugi Station (via Echigo-Yuzawa or Naoetsu), then taxi.
