Free campgrounds in Japan

Wild camping and overnight parking are restricted in much of Japan, but many towns run free campgrounds, often by a lake, river or beach. These 54 campgrounds in Japan are free of charge.

A campground is listed when its official website shows a price of ¥0, or when it has no published price and is tagged as free (fee=no) on OpenStreetMap. Many free sites need a reservation or a form at the town office, close in winter or ban campervans — check before you go.
